Stateside Speed Shop
Privacy policy
Plain English, no dark patterns. We collect the minimum we need to sell you parts, ship your order, and keep the site working — and we don't sell your information.
What we collect
We collect different information depending on how you use the site:
- When you browse the site — anonymous usage data via Google Analytics: pages you visit, how long you stay, what device and browser you use, and an approximate location based on your IP address (city level, not precise location). This helps us see which parts are popular and which pages need work.
- When you contact us via a form — whatever you type into the form: typically your name, email address, and your message. We use a service called Formspree to receive these submissions; the information is also kept in our inbox.
- When you place an order — orders for individual parts are placed via eBay or directly with us. If you order through eBay, eBay handles your payment information and we never see your card details. If you order directly, payments are processed by Stripe and Stripe handles your card details — we only see your name, shipping address, and order details.
- When you message us on WhatsApp — your phone number and the contents of your messages, handled per WhatsApp's privacy policy.
What we use it for
- Responding to your inquiries about parts, fitment, and shipping.
- Processing and shipping orders.
- Telling you about parts you specifically asked us to source (only if you opted in via a "notify me" form).
- Improving the site — figuring out which inventory is popular, which pages confuse people, where international traffic comes from.
- Complying with tax, legal, and accounting requirements.
What we don't do
- We don't sell your personal information.
- We don't share your information with third parties for their marketing.
- We don't run intrusive ad tracking or build behavioral profiles.
- We don't email you marketing unless you signed up for it.
Third-party services we use
The site relies on a few outside services. Their privacy practices apply when your data passes through them:
- Google Analytics — anonymous web traffic measurement.
- Google Merchant Center — surfaces our product feed in Google Shopping.
- Cloudflare — hosts the site and handles DDoS protection. Cloudflare sees your IP address on every page load (every web host does).
- Formspree — receives contact form submissions and forwards them to us.
- Stripe — processes card payments for direct orders.
- eBay — handles transactions when you buy through our eBay listings.
- WhatsApp — the messaging channel we prefer for customer questions.
- Instagram & Facebook — we cross-post listings and reviews; if you follow us on these platforms, Meta's privacy practices apply.
Cookies
The site uses cookies for two things: Google Analytics' anonymous measurement, and Cloudflare's basic security functions. We don't use cookies for advertising or cross-site tracking. Modern browsers let you block or clear cookies — none of the site's core functionality breaks if you do.
How long we keep your information
Inquiries and order records: as long as the business relationship is active plus seven years (US tax and accounting record retention). Anonymous web analytics: per Google Analytics' default retention (currently 14 months). You can ask us to delete what we have on you at any time — see below.
Your rights
No matter where you live, you can ask us to:
- Tell you what information we have on you.
- Correct anything that's wrong.
- Delete it (subject to record-retention requirements for completed orders).
- Stop emailing you, if you ever signed up for emails.
Email us at [email protected] and we'll handle it within a reasonable time (usually a few business days). California residents have specific rights under the CCPA — the same email address works for those requests.
Children's privacy
The site isn't aimed at children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you're a parent and think we've received your child's information, email us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
We update this page when our practices change. The "last updated" date at the bottom tells you when it was last revised. Material changes (new categories of data, new sharing partners) will be flagged at the top of the site for a reasonable period.
